Atopic dermatitis (AD) in children has been linked to neuropsychiatric disorders, such as depression, anxiety and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, well impairments conduct, emotions learning. However, the direct impact of AD on behavior not rigorously examined date. Using a birth cohort U.S. enrolled Study Early Child Care Youth Development from 1991 2007, we conducted longitudinal study comparing 116 with 1,104 without respect outcomes measured by caregiver-reported Behavior Checklist (CBCL), widely-used rating scale, at 9 timepoints between 24 months 15 years old. was assessed 36 age, 54 months, 1st grade, caregiver report ≥2 points used define presence AD. generalized estimating equations adjusted for sex, race/ethnicity, gestational parental education, family income, significantly associated clinically concerning behavioral problems (t-score ≥70) internalizing (OR 2.07 [95% CI 1.03-4.16]), externalizing 3.26 [1.20-8.84]), total 2.92 [1.38-6.20]). Sensitivity analyses alternative definitions led similar results.
